Complex.com: Big K.R.I.T. Breaks Down “Live From The Underground”

Mississippi-born Justin “Big K.R.I.T.” Scott has been waiting for next Tuesday (June 5) to come since 1999, when he was an aspiring teenage rapper dreaming of releasing an album.

When he stopped by the Complex office on a recent afternoon to talk about his forthcoming debut album Live from the Underground, his excitement was palpable, like a kid looking forward to Christmas.

“I can’t explain it,” he said with a beaming smile. “Sitting here talking to you about the album. It’s over. I’m just excited to drop it as my supporters are. They have been waiting and it’s actually fittin’ to come out. Man, it’s a milestone. You dream of this—to go into the store and physically see a copy of it. It’s overwhelming. It’s a lot of different emotions. I’m nervous. I’m scared.”

One thing he doesn’t have to worry about is its quality. Underground is a step forward from his critically acclaimed mixtapes. The album—which you can preview here—promises to please those fans who have been rocking with him since he was on the first floor. Here, K.R.I.T. gives us a song-by-song preview of his self-produced set, explaining all the song concepts and how they came to be.
