The popular running joke about Big K.R.I.T. is that he only really makes one song: the hard-slapping trunk-rattler about the country pleasures of his life in Mississippi, often using a candy-coated Caddy fitted with booming subwoofers as the ultimate status symbol. That assessment isn’t entirely off-base: His last album, released three years ago, was called Cadillactica. But K.R.I.T. has a talent for finding new ways to articulate his very particular fixations, and with his new single, “Confetti,” K.R.I.T. changes the perspective, going bigger and bolder. He’s reconsidered his terms for success. He’s no longer riding old school slabs slowly through his hometown as a brag—he’s changing tiers, challenging his rap peers to up their showmanship.
