On the “Kritically Acclaimed Tour” Big K.R.I.T. will perform music off his lauded second studio album Cadillactica, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hip Hop/R&B Chart in 2014. The album proved to be a breakout moment for the seasoned Mississippi bred MC with critics such as Pitchfork proclaiming “Cadillactica is the triumph of a style that has all but been discarded” and Billboard stamping the album as Big K.R.I.T.’s  “best work” to date.

Born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi, Big K.R.I.T. has gracefully shouldered the mantle of Southern rap’s next great star since breaking out with his 2010 mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. He was featured on the cover of XXL’s annual Freshmen issue in 2011 and hasn’t looked back—the mixtapes Return of 4Eva (2011), 4Eva and a Day (2012), and King Remembered in Time (2013), along with his debut album Live From the Underground (2012), have continued to raise the bar.

We live in an odd time for hip-hop. It is everywhere from mainstream commercial advertising to Scandinavian indie pop. The thing that started at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx has its fingertips all over the blueprint of global popular culture. Problem with immersion of hip hop culture into the forefront of the 24/7 media cycle is all the clutter to sort through. Not going to see Big K.R.I.T on Love & Hip Hop, probably not going to catch him beefing on twitter with another artist, and he might not dominate the number one spot on the charts. What people will observe about the Mississippi native is his humble demeanor and thoughtful perspectives. Spike Lee and Big K.R.I.T. in Talks to Possibly Direct ‘Praying Man’ Short Film

Spike Lee and Big K.R.I.T. have been in contact to discuss the possibility of the award winning film maker to direct a short film for the song “Praying Man” which features legendary blues artist B.B. King. The song taken from Big K.R.I.T.’s debut  studio album ‘Live From The Underground’ is told from the perspective of three different slaves all of whom have unknowingly met their demise and are receiving a visit from a praying man who has come to collect their souls and take them to Heaven. When ‘Live From The Underground’ was released in June of 2012 Big K.R.I.T. expressed an interest in shooting a visual to the “Praying Man” record but only if one man directed it, that man was Spike Lee. Fast forward to 2013, during an appearance on MTV’s Rap Fix Live the show’s host Sway Calloway gave Big K.R.I.T. the platform to pitch Spike Lee once more to direct a visual for the song. After that was done Big K.R.I.T. and MTV took to social media and begin campaigning using the hashtag #SpikeLee4PrayingMan which mobilized Big K.R.I.T.’s strong online fan base and eventually led to Spike Lee responding back via twitter:

The next day Spike Lee tweeted out the following:
